Leaving New York never easy

Leaving New York...

I have R.E.M. – Leaving New York playing on my iPod while writing this. The past week has been completely overloaded with new impressions. I try to find the words to describe it all, but feel lost. Check out my New York photoset on Flickr.

I am smiling in the picture because the weather is really nice around 17° C / 62° F, clear and sunny :-)

Walking across Brooklyn Bridge

We walked from Brooklyn across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan today. The weather was great and the view super nice.

iPod adverts are everywhere

These ads can be seen at every Metro station and a lot of people wearing white earbuds too – kinda’ scary.

Manhattan skyline, daytime view

This place is also great when it is daylight :-)

Did someone just start playing the theme song from Friends?. TV-shows are one thing but being here is great and the view quite litrally made my stomach jump. We had great thai food afterwards – sorry no pictures of that.

Trying not to be a fanatic…

Technology commentator Bill Thompson is worried about Mac users being ‘too smug’ over security and lacking herd immunity among his fellow Apple Mac users. I’m worried too.. It is indeed problematic when (and not a matter of if) the first Mac OS X virus spreads like the ‘I love you virus‘ or ‘CIH‘ which was everywhere in my files – I still find copies of it in my old Windows 98′ish files. It’s even worse in an always-on environment. Bill Thompson argues that the basic security of OS X is rather good for now, but we Mac users need to start paying attention to upcoming security issues.

This reminded me of the article ‘Spread Firefox, but don’t be a fanatic‘ – as a thought experiment try and replace FireFox with Apple or Mac OS X. I don’t have a problem being loyal to Apple products anymore, since it is good to be focused on one thing if you are going to dedicate some of your time to spreading it. It is being unconditionally loyal that bugs me… If Mozilla were to end Firefox development suddenly or Apple were to kill off OS X for some reason.. I would not reccomend hanging onto neither for years and years waiting for better things have come around. Nothing much has happened to Internet Explorer since 2001 and I am not waiting for Windows Vista or the next XP Service Pack. I’m choosing FireFox and a weird outlandish OS and enjoying the ride :)

Start spreading the news
I’m leaving monday..

I’m going to New York next monday and I hope to post lots of pictures and blog about it while I’m there. My old trusty PowerBook will journey with me to the city that never sleeps.

Hello world and hello WordPress!

My blog has migrated to WordPress. This is my first post.

Multiple speakers in iTunes 6.0.2

Apple are really not kidding about the “..several rooms at once”. I tried it out on my PowerBook with the built-in speakers and the AirPort. They were very much in sync, despite the lag streaming usually causes. If only AirFoil from Rouge Amoeba or the Apple DVD-player had the same sense of sync’ing sound and video.
